Sai Ram!
The above is a photo of Indra Devi with her beloved Lord Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The following is an excerpt from the book Sai Rapture, P. 275 describing a blessed Leela surrounding Indra Devi:
"I started teaching Yoga and Meditation to the children from The Children's Project at the school mentioned earlier. The compelling thing is that last year before I came to India I was trying to find a copy of the Indra Devi book Sai Yoga. Indra Devi is known as the first lady of Yoga; she was very instrumental in bringing Yoga to the West. She was also a very dedicated devotee of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. Since the book was out of print, I couldn't find a copy. I wrote to Mr. Padmanaban, Swami's former photographer, who told me he would try to find a copy of the book. I didn't hear anything more and the quest faded from my memory. Remarkably, just before my yoga class was to begin, I received a message from Mr. Padmanaban saying that he had located a copy of the book. What perfect Divine right timing! Swami knows and hears everything; we must have utmost faith in His Divine Omniscience and love for us!
I began reading the book avidly. Sri Mataji Indra Devi's experiences with our Lord Sai are simply mind boggling. She was a contemporary with a variety of well-known Sai personages: Howard and Iris Murphet, Elsie and Walter Cowan, Sri Narayana Kasturi and many others. She even saw John Lennon and Yoko Ono of Beatles fame at the ashram."
Sathya Sai Baba mentions Indra Devi in the Book, Sadhana the Inward Path:
"What Indra Devi has said is nothing new in this country, and for us. In fact, she learnt the elements of Yoga here and she is making many lives happy and peaceful in the West through Yoga. Her campaign of Light in Darkness is only the Sanathana Dharma ideal of Thamaso maa jyothirgamaya, from darkness lead me into light."
So, lets open our Yoga mat and dedicate some time to this healthy discipline that will bring happiness and peace to our lives. I personally like Yogi Hari's instruction. He has a very powerful, magnetic voice that is instantly calming and relaxing. He has a series of cd's and dvd's in Yoga instruction that are
highly beneficial:
