THE POWER OF GOD
'
We adore our little Rama Ji. He is going to be five years old Valentines Day but he is still our baby.
Rama spends his time indoors and outdoors. His great joy is chasing after squirrels, lizards and unfortunately birds. He rarely catches these creatures but when he does we are usually able to rescue them from his sharp fangs.
Today was an exception, Rama attacked a brown and yellow finch and the next thing we knew he had brought it inside and deposited it on the cold tile floors.
My husband, David called me as I was sitting at the computer. "Oh No! Rama killed a bird and brought it inside!"
I came running to see the poor little finch lying quite still in the front room. "Quick" I said, "Let's chant Gayatri."
So, we both sat around the tiny bird chanting the Gayatri Mantra:
"Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ
Tat-savitur Vareñyam
Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi
Dhiyo Yonah Prachodayāt

The bird was so still, we thought for sure he was a goner. But we kept chanting Gayatri.
Finally, David got up to get a box to put it in. I kept chanting and then started doing:
"Ommmmmmm, Ommmmmm, Ommmmm," continuously.
I remembered that I still had some vibhuti Swami had personally given to me during an interview in 2007 with USA Devotees. I jumped up, ran and retrieved the vibhuti, then sprinkled some of the precious vibhuti over the bird, all the while chanting: "Ommmmmmmm."
The vibhuti glistened like sparkling white stars on the soft brown wings. "Ommmmmmm." David brought the box in. "Look!" I exclaimed, his little wing is quivering. Surely where the vibhuti sparkled, we saw some movement!
Then wonder of wonders the sweet little fellow, leaped up like Lazarus snatched from the jaws of death.
He flapped his wings and took off. I had to corral him gently into the box, then rushed outside, releasing him with great rejoicing:
"Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm."
We love You Baba!
