The Mysterious Double Astral Body
Om Sai Ram
This afternoon I had a wonderful astral experience. I have been regularly chanting God's name as part of my spiritual practice. Lately, I have intensified the practice and seen excellent results. My life has been remarkably peaceful, problems are easily resolved and I am enjoying a definite nearness and spiritual closeness to God.
On numerous occasions while sitting at the computer or in the prayer room, clouds of incredibly sweet aromatic fragrance have enveloped me, causing me to run to the garden to see if the jasmine was in bloom. The scent turned out to be ethereal.
I have also been experiencing clairaudient sounds. At certain sensitive times I can distinctly hear sublime music and singing.
Then, this afternoon David and I decided to do a spiritual exercise and meditation. After the meditation I took a nap in the puja (prayer) room. My meditation seat can open up into a neat little bed. Shortly, I drifted off in the blessed and tranquil vibrations that saturate this room.
As I approached the borderline state I could hear David in the other room talking on the phone. Then the door opened and David came into the prayer room. As he looked in on me, I thought, well this is peculiar I can still hear him talking on the phone in the other room. David gazed at me and said, "I have to cover the little plants in here because it is raining." There were little tiny plants lining the tables. I watched as he tenderly and carefully covered the plants. Again, curiously I could still hear David talking in the other room.
David told me after he covered the plants that he was going to lay down. I said to him, "do you realize that you are talking on the phone and at the same time in here covering plants?"
I continued, "See you have a Double!"
David looked at me with a puzzled expression. Then I said seriously, "Who am I talking to you or your double?"
Soon, that scenario began to fade and I felt myself trying to astrally project out of my body. I repeatedly kept telling myself to get up. "Get Up!" I commanded. I felt a portion of my astral being lift up out of my body. But, since I haven't projected in a long time, I felt stiff and heavy. "Get Up!" I declared, levitating partially. I tried times 3 or 4 times but could only project partially. I found myself returning to waking state and recalling this interesting, mystical incident.
I mentioned that I haven't astrally projected in a long time, since I've retired it seems I am sleeping a bit too soundly. Astral projection is more easily facilitated when sleep is interrupted and then resumed some time later this is because the second time you fall asleep you enter a borderline state quicker. The borderline state is essential for astral projection. You are right between objective and subjective awareness.
In the book, Sai Rapture, I recount some of my astounding astral experiences. The following are two exceptional ones:
A SECOND BIRTH
Immersing myself in mystical exploration, I embraced Eastern philosophy, Yoga and other such disciplines, joining the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC. The following profound spiritual experience happened around this time. I was feeling upset over an incident that had occurred earlier in the day and retired to my room falling into a fitful sleep. As I drifted deeper, I found myself walking outside on a dusty, deserted road. A feeling of impending doom began to surround me. Something dark and sinister loomed. I took off running, yelling to God for help. Looking up at the sky, I beheld what appeared to be a white, dazzling whirlwind forming directly above me.
The whirlwind had millions of eyes, mouths, ears, legs, hands, voices revolving inside its wondrous vortex. Waves of protective energy emanating, I felt myself being lifted up, levitating in mid-air. Then a most peculiar sensation: all the air was being vacuumed out of my body, beginning with my toes and swirling out through the crown of my head. I surmised that I might be dying. Then just as rapidly, a fresh blast of air entered the top of my head and filled my whole body as I gradually floated back down onto the bed. When I woke up from this enigmatic incident, I thought immediately of the biblical description of God in Ezekiel’s Wheel, (Ezekiel 1:1-28).
AUM MANI PADME HUM
As I continued to embrace mysticism, Eastern philosophy and religion, I became attracted to a popular Tibetan Buddhist mantra: Aum Mani Padme Hum. Translated it means:
“The All is a precious jewel in the lotus flower which blooms in my heart.”
Being an artist and poet, I intuited that this resplendent mantra poetically described the union of the individual soul personality with the Universal Self. Exploring the power of the mantra, I faithfully repeated it non-stop one night. The mantra dissolved on my tongue, merging with my heart, mind and Soul. At that exquisite point between waking and dreaming, I slipped out of my physical form.
As I stood by my bedside gazing down at my body, the mantra resounded in the twilight atmosphere. Hovering like a mystic butterfly over my slumbering physique, I swiftly and decisively proceeded to dive into my very own heart. I floated into a starlit porcelain white room. It was handsomely tiled with a winding staircase in the center of the room. Curious, I climbed the staircase into an upper room. I could hear a chorus of people chanting the mantra; there was a man guiding and instructing the group. He turned to greet me. The experience faded and I returned to normal consciousness. This unusual episode revealed to me the subtle and extraordinary power of mantras, especially if they are intoned with faith, resolve and divine intention.
