HEART LOTUS
OM SAI RAM
A few days after Hurricane Irma I stepped out of my car in the Publix supermarket parking lot.
There was a sprinkling of iridescent grackle birds squawking loudly as if in distress. I didn't have any food with me but promised them that I would bring some crackers when I returned.
Lately, I have been feeling how very important it is to stay in the heart center, especially since during the storm, I noticed how many wretched feelings surfaced and exploded between my husband, David and I. We both recognized that in order to stay connected to God and Divine Love it was imperative to stay in that sacred essence.
David read a wonderful passage from The Bhagavad Gita that emphasized the importance of staying in our Heart Center:
"I am the Atman, O Gudakesha, seated in the heart of every being. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings."
"Whatever is glorious, beautiful and mighty, know thou that all such has issued from a fragment of My splendors."
Source: Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 10
We both began employing myriad ways to abide in our heart centers. David, told me his new name is Loving Awareness. This would immediately remind him to stay connected to his heart lotus.
Another way was singing together. One evening we both sat under the enchanting Florida late afternoon skies on our Jhoola and sang nostalgic hymns from my mother's old hymnal.
Divine love is so refreshing and renewing, there is nothing like the beauty and bliss of God's love which we can experience and become.
I returned to my car with grocery and crackers for the grackles. Breaking up some crackers I coaxed the birds to come eat. The grackles gathered around the crumbs, happy for some nourishment. At that moment, I noticed a car speeding down the lane. The man in the car wasn't slowing down even though he could clearly see the birds feeding. Quickly I shooed them away. As the car passed the man had a very angry scowl on his face. Feeling annoyed, I cursed him under my breath, but then quickly realized I was no longer in my heart center. I asked God to forgive me and continued feeding our lovely ornitho companions.
Our beloved Lord Sai says: "Love is the form of the Divine. Love alone can merge in love. When one is filled with Divine love He can experience oneness with the Divine. Happiness arises from pure love Which is also the source of Truth, Righteousness, Peace and Forbearance."
