Sai Ram All
This is a wonderful account by a dear friend of how prayer and communion with God can heal, protect and safeguard your life. God listens to our sincere prayers and often answers us through dreams. That is why it is important for us to pay attention to our dreams. God loves us all so dearly and will respond to our loving prayers. Sathya Sai Baba constantly reminds us that God is in us, with us, in front of us and around us:
"The year was 1995 and I had recently moved to Hawaii from northern California. I was an unemployed hippie with limited resources going a little further down the road on my life adventure. I was 37, physically active, and had been in good health all my life.
But as time went by on the Big Island, I began having some physical problems. Occasionally my knee would start to swell and ache, and I also seemed to get tired more easily. And with each passing month, these symptoms got progressively worse.
I went to the local health clinic several times to see the Dr. there for help. He would ask me if I had experienced some type of trauma to my knee, like a blunt impact, but I assured him that the answer was no. Unfortunately, he wasn’t of much help. Eventually, I needed a cane to help me get around because my knee was quite swollen and hurting. I was also more sedentary due to my low energy.
This was the first time in my life that I actually became truly scared of my physical health. I was becoming disabled and neither I, nor the Dr, knew why. At the end of one of my last visits to this Dr, he recommended that I see an osteopath located about 10 miles away. I agreed to do this, and it gave me some hope.
The night before my appointment with the osteopath, as I lay there alone on my bed, I was in a fragile physical and emotional state. My knee was in rough shape and I was tired as usual. Also, I was nervous about the upcoming appointment - would he would find out what was wrong with me ?
You know how sometimes you don’t do something until you are forced to do it, or until you don‘t have any other options ? Well, up to that point, I hadn’t really prayed for healing. But that night I began to pray. I prayed deeply that the osteopath would find out what was wrong with me so that I could get healthy again…
The next day, I went to the appointment and the Dr. took his time examining me and asking me lots of questions. But after he was all done doing his thing, I got the impression that he did not have insight into why I was experiencing this debilitating condition. He had given my knee a shot of cortisone to reduce the swelling, but that was about it.
As I was getting ready to leave, I remembered something - a dream I had the night before. So I said to him “You know Dr., this might sound funny, but last night I had a dream that all my health problems are due to an insect bite I got in California about one and a half years ago.” He listened to my words and then asked “What kind of insect was it ? “ I told him that it was probably either a tick or a spider; I wasn’t sure which because I was bit at night and I could not see the insect. He then said “If it was a tick, you might have lyme disease. Let’s test you for that.” I had heard of lyme, but didn’t know much about it, and of course was open to being tested for it.
The test results were positive, so much so that the results were actually off the charts ! Finally a diagnosis - lyme disease ! I was thrilled and felt like all my troubles were over ! Little did I know at the time that my recovery would be long and difficult. But my healing process had started, and it was all because my prayer had been answered with a dream…"
